Information on Selling Your Vintage Costume Jewelry

Brilliance Jewelry is always looking to purchase old costume jewelry.

The value of costume jewelry lies in its "collectability", as well as its age and of course condition.

The market is changing all the time, as collectors as well as
investors seek out items that will increase in value over the long term.

Old unusual Bakelite plastic jewelry is a perfect example of what collectors are looking for.
The more unusual pieces set with rhinestones, different colors
or carved pieces are particularly hot this season.

However, not all costume jewelry is valuable.

While there are exceptions to every rule,
In general, items such as plain chains, or items that are less than
10 years old generally do not have value at this time.

There are many factors that dictate the price of an item.
Items that are designer pieces and are SIGNED and/or are in mint condition command better prices.
The condition of a piece is
extremely important.

Pieces having no missing stones, no dull, greying or broken stones, no broken or damaged
parts or wear to the metal command better pricing.

While it is still possible to sell your damaged costume jewelry
the pricing you receive will vary according to the damage or wear to the piece.
This is because restoration will be needed in order to make the piece presentable for resale.

When costume jewelry was originally manufactured, it was made with the intent of being
worn for a season or two and then discarded.
It was never made to be kept and worn for years.

This is precisely the reason why pieces that are in excellent condition command higher
prices than pieces with damage.

The majority of surviving vintage costume jewelry pieces have some type of wear or damage.
This is a perfect example of the laws of supply and demand at work.
There is currently not enough quality, excellent condition pieces around to be offered to
the buying public, so the prices for these pieces are holding steady and increasing in value.
